This relates a lot to Kevin Kelly’s third leg of science about making as a way of learning about the world. I love the idea of buildership.
Here’s the problem in a nutshell. What leaders “lead” are yesterday’s organizations. But yesterday’s organizations — from carmakers, to investment banks, to the healthcare system, to the energy industry, to the Senate itself — are broken. Today’s biggest human challenge isn’t leading broken organizations slightly better. It’s building better organizations in the first place. It isn’t about leadership: it’s about “buildership”, or what I often refer to as Constructivism.

Simon Sinek quite beautifully explains the power of “why” in leadership and influence. The most influential leaders in history all focus on why they are doing something—the purpose, the cause. They share their beliefs in order to capture the interest and loyalty of those that believe similarly, then mobilize them to cause action based on that belief.
Derek Sivers again with one of his best talks in which he explores leadership and social movements using a video of a dancing guy. Note the importance of first followers.
